Leading Artist: These artists are hand picked for their artistic excellence and communication skills. Their approach to the material and sculptural expressions is extremely varied which promises an exciting exhibition in 2008:
Peder Istad, Norway. One of Norways leading artists in snow/ice sculpture. Created the “POLARBEAR” for the UN in Kristiansand in October 2007 and “The Ice Rose” for His Majesty King Harald” for his 70th birthday (October 2006) in front of the Royal Castle in Oslo
Mark Szulgit. USA. Arcitect and snow/ice sculptor. Designs and works with Icehotel and Absolut Vodka with Julia Orlando in Sweden. He returns from last years event at Hovden
Julia Orlando, Australia. Textile artist who works in snow/ice and other materials. Works with Mark at the Icehotel in Sweden. Just finished a beautiful sculpture on the shores of Australia with Mark Szulgit
Lukas Arons, Netherlands, now living in Sweden. A sculptor of stone and ice. Created the “POLARBEAR” with Peder Istad in Kristiansand for the UN in October 2007.
”Team Hovden”: Mette Olsson, Ella Uleberg and Jostein Olsen. This team has the longest experience working at Hovden. They will design and create their own snow sculpture. All live at Hovden.
Birgitta Linhart, Sweden. Will take her team through making a gigantic, poetic, beautiful, light, in-the way-of-the-sun cloud made out of snow in which you can walk inside!
Laila Kolostyak, Norway. Just finished a stunning ice project in France; TUNDRA – “ice melting precious earth”. She has previously lead workshops in Russia, Sweden, Norway, France and the UK.
Andrea Garrihy, UK. A sculptor working preferably with snow. When he can’t get his hands on snow he works with wood, plaster and stone – mainly limestone making figures, natural forms and knots. To Hovden he will present the “Norwegian Knot”. Andrea has on several occasions worked in Japan and USA.
Piet Siig, Denmark. Sculptural artist working mostly with stone. He is making the sculpture outside our official “Snø og Is Skulptur Hotel Hovden Høyfjellshotell”. While the artistic challenge of making this sculpture is in focus, he will lead his team to a sculpture in snow in which children can explore and enjoy. Piet has participated at Hovden and Greenland (Nuuk Snow) several times.
Intermediate Sculptors. All the artists have experience from working with snow or ice. 4 of them have been at Hovden earlier.
